Family Profile
When Keith and Elsie Jones were married in 1932, they commenced their married life on a little farm in the Pilton Valley on the Eastern Darling Downs. It was a farm typical of the times with horses, a dairy, thirty cows and paddocks of wheat.
The local Stock and Station agent supplied Keith with piglets that he grew using the skim milk from the dairy. Once fully grown he would sell the pigs back to the Stock and Station agent for a small profit. Keith had a way with animals and his success with the piglets encouraged him to start breeding his own. In 1940 he purchased breeders from a reputable stud at the Brisbane Royal Show and the rest ‘is history’.
Keith was soon back at the ‘Ekka’ winning prize ribbons in his own right and selling breeding stock to farmers all over Australia. In 1950 he bought another nearby farm where he specialised in producing breeding stock and exported breeding stock to many Asian and Pacific Rim Nations.
In 1960 Keith’s youngest son, Ian, became involved in the business. He took his fathers passion for breeding high quality pigs and extending the future of the business into the second generation. Ian was able to expand the family business by making considerable investments in new technology to take advantage of innovations in accommodation and husbandry.
Ian welcomed the third generation of Jones’ into the family business in the 1990’s when his eldest son Andrew returned from England and his youngest son Marcus returned from China. The family business has continued to focus on producing the highest quality pork and using the most advanced technologies to ensure they continue to strive for excellence.
Keith and Elsie would be proud.
